Fresno, California, may be the nation’s breadbasket, but it is also a food desert to some who call it home. Summer temperatures find their niche in the triple digits, and resilience makes its name in the fields and on the streets . . . it pours from the mouths of the children.

But dignity, all too often, comes with a price tag. The last $5.48 left on the food stamp card or the $200-plus it costs to ship over plant cuttings from Ecuador. Because even nature isn’t immune to commercialism.

Peel back the price tags and recall the meaning of worth in Kadupul Flower, a social-environmental justice collection from debut poet Kimberly Vargas Agnese.

More about Kadupul Flower…

The collection is, at its heart, about dignity, but the theme of dignity extends beyond the typical concept of human dignity to encompass environmental dignity, as well. Kadupul Flower invites readers to ponder: What rights ought to be afforded to the people, creatures, and landscapes that comprise the world in which we live?

Social and environmental justice converge in the intersectional work of Kadupul Flower. The poetry collection is distinctive in its uniting of several themes. The set deals with poverty – including homelessness – as well as racism, sexual assault, and ecological justice.

About Green Writers Press…

We are a woman-owned, Vermont-based, global publisher. The term ‘locavore’ applies to our mission, which is to publish books, eBooks, and audiobooks that will spread a message of hope and renewal.

Green Writers Press Mission

It is our mission, at Green Writers Press, to spread a message of environmental activism through the words and images we publish. We also publish books that, while not quite related to that goal, speak to our quality of life and the beauty of nature. We use only FSC-certified papers printed at the following printers: in Vermont, at Springfield Printing Corporation and Villanti & Sons Printers Inc, and at a woman-owned printer, McNaughton & Gunn, in Michigan, along with our main printer, Bookmobile in Minneapolis. We adhere to GWP’s commitment to preserving and protecting the natural resources of the earth. To that end, a percentage of our profits is annually donated to environmental and social activist groups like 350.org, The Southern Poverty Law Foundation, and other groups that are actively seeking a better world for all people and the Earth.

How GWP Prints Sustainably

Our books are printed with soy-based inks on paper made with a chlorine-free process, utilizing digital short-run printing, and offset technology. We adhere to GWP’s commitment of preserving and protecting the natural resources of the earth, utilizing responsible environmental, social, and economic practices. Environmentally responsible and sustainable practices are embraced within this, our mission statement. We are exploring printing on other materials as well, such as organic hemp from Canada, kenaf, and Arundo donax (similar to bamboo).
